Prior Park Road Ashby de la Zouch
Submitted for planning consent in 2002 for a private developer, our scheme for Prior Park Road proposed a development of four large new build houses on a sensitive green field site in Ashby-De-La-Zouch.
The site is nestled between the historic ruined castle grounds and the public park in the centre of this historic market town. A design was proposed for the detached dwellings to sit within a carefully designed heavily landscaped setting. The master planning proposed a public garden over 40% of the site to connect the castle grounds to the public park, and to ensure a benefit to the public alongside the development of this sensitive site. The housing arrangement itself was designed to afford views through from one green space to the other and to ‘bed’ the houses down into the green environment.
The buildings sought to mix the semi-rural Ashby vernacular with a fresh and elegant housing type. Two storey spaces and open plan living brought a modern air to each four bedroom house, which were designed using the latest timber frame off-site manufacturing technology. The design also incorporated the latest sustainable building techniques and energy systems, to establish a low carbon foot print for the development.
