Queens Gate, Kensington

Completed in 2006 for a private client with a growing family, this project involved the full refurbishment and reorganisation of a 3,000ft² grade 2 listed apartment on the fashionable Queens Gate in Kensington.

At the time of purchase in 2005, the property was in a very poor state of repair and had not been touched since the 1970’s. The design proposal was extensive and dramatic, with new floors and ceilings constructed, walls removed and a significant amount of restructuring work. The finished result is a high quality, modern, light filled five bedroom residence.

The space occupies the third floor and part of the fourth floor of a large Georgian mansion block. On the third floor a large living and dining space can be found, along with a cinema room, family kitchen, guest room with dedicated shower space and a nanny’s suite. The fourth floor accommodates the dramatic master bedroom suite and two children’s bedrooms, plus a family bathroom. Both levels are connected by a bespoke oak and stainless steel staircase designed by Curtis Wood Architects, which sweeps around a unique modern chandelier - the centre piece of the space.

Each area is finished slightly differently to suit the client’s personal taste; however a theme of simplicity and a common palette of colours runs throughout to ultimately create a stunning classic family home.
