Kings Road, Windsor
This client for this project sought to fully refurbish, remodel and extend their grade two listed family home in the centre of historic Windsor. The existing building was in a good state of repair when purchased by our clients in 2005, however the ground floor spaces were not large enough to create an open plan family kitchen, the first floor spaces were poorly organised and inefficient, and the top floor also needed a light refurbishment.
The ground floor space was designed to have a very powerful connection to the garden and the new external gym cube. This is achieved by running internal timber walls through strategically placed window openings to the outside, by employing a modern structural glass extension and by continuing internal floor finishes through to outside. The kitchen – a centre piece of the ground floor - has as strong a connection with the internal dining area as it does with the external patio and orchard. The first floor accommodates a guest bedroom and fantastic master bedroom suite with bespoke dressing room, a glass enclosed en suite shower space and stunning family bathroom. Two further bedrooms are provided at second floor level.
The final scheme, constructed from Curtis Wood Architects drawings and specifications, was managed on site by our client - with limited support from us. They have achieved a beautifully finished family home, balancing the best of the historic building with stunning modern design. The project construction was completed in 2008.
