Heath Hurst Road, Hampstead
This large family home in Hampstead had not been touched for thirty years, so was in dreadful need of a substantial refurbishment. The original layout had a poor relationship to the small rear garden and the interior layout – largely made up of small disjointed spaces - failed to suit the modern lifestyle of a young family.
Completed on site in 2008, this large residential project aimed to open up the ground floor living spaces, create a direct and powerful connection to the garden and bring daylight into the heart of the building plan. At first floor a study, utility room and large master bedroom suite – with dressing room and en suite shower space – has been created. Two further bedrooms and roof terrace were created at second floor and an entertainment space was provided at loft level.
The ground floor living spaces are separated from the kitchen and dining room by a large sliding door. Once opened, a structural glass enclosure over the dining area is revealed, linking in to the water pool and patio beyond. The open plan kitchen, has an island unit with concrete worktops, the wall of kitchen units continue through the glass to outside, reinforcing the link between inside and outside, and creating a barbeque and outdoor eating area.
The master bedroom suite has a glass link leading to a dressing room, which follows on to a bespoke shower room at the rear. This flow of spaces helps retain the luxurious open plan feeling of the house.
