Reeves House, Clapham
Completed in 2008, this project sought to fully refurbish and remodel this large private house in Clapham for a young family. The design brief for this project was simple. From the Victorian shell we created a modern family home that has a strong relationship with the garden, strong connections between all the family zones over ground and lower ground floors, a dramatic master bedroom suite, four further bedrooms and two study spaces.
The lower two levels are fully interconnected through a two storey dining space, balconies, internal ‘windows’, and glass walk-on panels in the floor. The interior runs to outside with a level floor finish, large areas of glass and sliding doors. A water feature is created between the two patio spaces to visually draw the garden into the building and creates a real focus for the scheme, aided by a dramatic glass and oak staircase.
Where the historic elements of the building - such as period cornices and staircases, sash windows and panelled doors - are retained, they are all fully refurbished. This helps create a perfect balance between the original Victorian building and the contemporary intervention, and results in a family home with the best of the old and the best of the new.
