Rosie & Jim Visitor Centre
Undertaken in 1999 for British Waterways, this development for the Rosie and Jim Visitor centre was in two parts.
One site was based at the head of the canal network on Birmingham’s Centenary Square. This accommodated the information point, ticket office, canal boat arrival point and a gallery facility to promote local artists. A thirty minute canal boat ride away, the Rosie and Jim visitor centre can be found, set within old canal side cottages and defunct Victorian workshops. The visitor centre was designed around the children’s canal boat characters Rosie and Jim, with the aim of promoting a greater awareness of the historic Birmingham canals and the activities of British Waterways.
The design solution was undertaken in collaboration with architect Hewitt Studios.
