Stanley Crescent, Notting Hill

Commissioned in 2004, our design for this stunning remodel of a Georgian apartment in the centre of fashionable Notting Hill sought to create a dramatic contemporary penthouse apartment.

The existing arrangement of the internal spaces was cramped and confused. We aimed to bring clarity to the layout through the introduction of a full height top-lit atrium and a dramatic feature staircase, connecting the three storeys together, physically and visually.

The Georgian bridge link entrance hall was opened up for maximum effect, and leads from the front entrance directly to the atrium and staircase. The living room, dining space and kitchen area were rearranged to create freer flowing interior space on the lower level. The bedrooms above had internal balconies overlooking the central atrium added, to create strong visual connections through the height of apartment.

A modern glazed study room was proposed to the top floor to complete the sequence of spaces. This opens at both ends to the limestone roof terrace, affording views across Notting Hill skyline towards the new Wembley stadium.
