Liberia Road, Highbury
Set within the Highbury conservation area, Curtis Wood Architects were commissioned in 2005 to undertake a considered and beautiful loft conversion to this Victoria terraced home.
Published in 2006 by the Times Inside-Out magazine, the loft level works provided a study/guest bedroom and bespoke storage for large and small items. To the first floor below, the large family bathroom was re-planned to accommodate a separate shower room and utility room, with a reduced size family bathroom.
The conservation area rules tightly controlled the external design response, which required a lead-clad mansard roof with dormers and timber sash windows. Drama was created with a large bespoke glass roof light over the staircase landing. Daylight was transferred to the floors below via large glass floor panels and modern glass balustrades.
