High Trees, Stanmore
Commissioned in 2008, Curtis Wood Architects have designed a dramatic transformation of this substantial and initially unpromising family home.
The ground floor is fully reorganised to create a large formal reception room and study to one side of the house, with the heart of the building as a large family zone - open plan kitchen, semi-enclosed dining space and family room opening to the garden. The swimming pool and gym are reconnected to the house, to encourage more use and to feel less divorced from the internal living spaces. The first floor is redeveloped to provide a beautiful, enlarged master bedroom suite and three further bedrooms – all with dedicated bathrooms. Finally, the loft is converted to create two additional bedrooms both with en suite shower spaces, accessed from a top lit bridge link which spans wonderfully over the entrance hall and main staircase below.
This project was submitted to Harrow Planning Department late 2008 and will be constructed through 2009.
