Welbeck House, Marylebone
Welbeck House is located in the heart of Marylebone in central London, within a prominent corner building behind Selfridges. The apartment is mostly single storey, but does have a spectacular two storey domed living space with a galleried library above. Our client purchased this apartment on completion by a developer. She loved the location and roof top views towards the iconic BT tower, but didn’t like the minimalist interior style, wanting something more interesting with greater warmth.
Our design solution made internal spatial changes to a number of areas, and created new fitted furniture elements throughout. To tune this apartment to our client’s exact requirements, we opened up the kitchen to the dining space to form a direct and strong relationship and most notably created a dramatic walnut panelled living space to the dome, complimented by oak fitted furniture and new balustrades.
The walnut lining to the dome area conceals continuous LED strip lights, which wash over the walnut panels, adding warmth and interest. This makes the lapped dome lining glow and, with a programmable lighting system, allows the light levels to be tuned to maximum effect. A bespoke bronzed door panel to the dining area was also commissioned from Based Upon as an art piece. This really does bring something very different and unique to the scheme. This project was completed on site in 2008 and was constructed by www.ckbespokerefurbishments.co.uk.
