Alma Square, St Johns Wood
Completed in 2008, we undertook a whole scale refurbishment and full internal rebuild of this very large five storey family home in St John’s Wood.
The building had in the past been a public house called ‘The Heroes of Alma’, and through subsequent internal reorganisation by previous owners, the building structure had been compromised and had left the load bearing components in an unstable state. The result of this was to remove the internal structure over five storeys, create a new rigid steel work frame and then reconstruct the internal spaces within the house.
The resultant scheme provides a large cinema room and games space at basement level, a custom-built kitchen and dining space plus internal garage at ground floor, an open plan living space with bespoke furniture and bar at first floor, master suite with dressing room and dramatic en suite at second floor level and finally three bedrooms and three bathrooms at third floor. A small courtyard garden is retained to the rear of the building.
The design solution sought to create open and free flowing spaces, with drama achieved through high quality finishes, bespoke furniture, carefully designed lighting and internal windows, to afford views between spaces and allow visual connections to be made.
